Traveling down her own winding road, Helen Lavelle recently returned to the land of her ancestry for the first time in twelve years. Dazzled still by Ireland's beauty and thrilled for her homeland's economic growth, the artist was also saddened that her blessed memory of Ireland was being chopped away by progress.

Disappearing were the humble houses with thatched roofs and snaking paths. Deserted were the bustling pubs and teetering town halls.

The meandering roads, however, like the bright faced and friendly people who call Ireland home, continued to give Ms. Lavelle comfort in beauty and heritage.

The artist returned home with a collection of photographs haunting in their splendor and their commonplace. A true daughter of the country, Ms. Lavelle felt that documentation of the roads would best preserve the authentic vision of Ireland she and so many others hold dear.
